We operate self-hosted Matomo instances for clients who need website and application analytics without sending user data to US-based companies. All analytics data stays within European infrastructure — no Google, no third-party tracking, no surveillance exposure.
We deploy and operate Matomo — the leading open source analytics platform — on your infrastructure. Every page view, every event, every visitor metric stays on your servers. No data is shared with Google, no scripts are loaded from US-based CDNs, and no analytics data ever crosses into a jurisdiction where it could be subject to foreign surveillance laws.
All analytics data is stored in your infrastructure, in your database, under your control. No data processor agreement with a US company. No ambiguous data flows.
No cookies required for basic analytics. IP anonymization built in. Full compliance with GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, and all EU data protection regulations without legal workarounds or contractual gymnastics.
Multiple EU Data Protection Authorities — in Austria, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden — have ruled that Google Analytics violates the GDPR. The core issue is that data transferred to Google’s US servers is subject to US surveillance laws (FISA 702, Executive Order 12.333), which were found to provide inadequate protection for EU personal data under the Schrems II ruling of July 2020.
This is not a theoretical risk. EU regulators have issued significant fines against companies using Google Analytics:
Yliopiston Apteekki pharmacy chain fined €1.1 million for using Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Fonts, and Meta Pixel — sensitive health data was leaked to US companies through tracking tools.
Tele2 fined SEK 12 million (~€1.02 million). The Administrative Court of Appeal confirmed that Google Analytics data transfers to the US violated GDPR Chapter V, and protective measures were insufficient to override US surveillance access.
The NOYB privacy advocacy group (founded by Max Schrems) has filed 101 complaints across 30 EU/EEA member states. Google has paid hundreds of millions in GDPR fines across multiple jurisdictions — yet the underlying surveillance exposure remains unresolved. Relying on Google Analytics is an active legal and operational risk for any European organization.
